About Kindred

What started as Unibet in 1997 is today Kindred Group. With more than 1,700 employees, we are one of Europe's fastest-growing betting companies. We make leading sports betting and casino products, available on desktop, tablet and mobile. You can visit one of our platforms at https://www.unibet.com.au. We have led the development of technological advancements, mobile solutions, new product launches, and player safety and responsible gambling improvements.

Job Description

Kindred is building its revolutionary and largely greenfield sportsbook betting platform, intended to operate globally across several exciting and ultra-challenging markets. The new platform will answer the most demanding non-functional requirements, taking billions of bets from millions of active customers, 24x7 across four continents. For context, our existing platform executes thousands of persistent transactions per second non-stop, and feeds latency-sensitive market data to hundreds of thousands of clients simultaneously.

We're looking for an exceptionally skilled and highly motivated Solution Architect to join the existing Architecture Practice to oversee and support our expanding Engineering capability — both within Australia and the rest of the Group.

Aside from technical excellence, creativity, communication, commercial acumen and resourcefulness are essential skills for this role. Successful candidates must have excellent communication and leadership skills, depth of technical expertise and the ability to work effectively with a broad range of technical and business stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

  • Establish, ratify and advocate principles and practices for managing key application assets within the organisation.
  • Take ownership of the design and delivery of complex, performance-intensive products. Advise and support multi-disciplinary Engineering teams throughout all phases of the delivery.
  • Collaborate with the broader Architecture and Engineering community to maintain conceptual integrity and sustainably evolve our solution portfolio.
  • Provide technical leadership, guidance and mentorship to the Engineering community.
  • Maintain documentation using industry-standard tooling — e.g., Confluence and various diagramming tools, such as Draw.io, Gliffy, Lucid, etc.
  • Ensure that solutions remain compliant, covering such aspects as privacy (GDPR), financial (AML/CTF) and wagering regulation.

Essential skills & required experience

  • Demonstrable experience in the design and delivery of complex, distributed systems. This includes microservices and event-driven architectures.
  • Experience in data modelling for a variety of persistence paradigms (relational, K-V, graph, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience with the following technologies: Postgres, Apache Kafka, Kubernetes.
  • An engineering background with demonstrable/verifiable expertise in one or more contemporary programming languages; e.g., Java, .NET, Python, JS/TypeScript, Go, Rust, etc.
  • Ability to actively liaise with business and technical stakeholders across the business.
  • People focus, as this is very much a team sport.

NOTE: This is a hands-on role with a particular focus on architecture and design, requiring close collaboration with several highly experienced engineering teams. You'll be responsible for setting architectural direction and advising seasoned practitioners. As such, we are not looking for "enterprise" architects at this stage.

Nice to have

  • Experience in the gaming and wagering industry and understanding of consumer betting products.
  • Interest in maths and quantitative finance.
  • Interest in distributed computing algorithms.
  • Knowledge of the Elastic stack and Couchbase.
  • Experience with AWS.

What you'll get

  • The chance to work alongside diverse, intelligent, and driven peers in a rewarding environment.
  • Training, mentorship and personal development opportunities.
  • We are in a fantastic new office near Barangaroo, close to Wynyard station.
  • Office with a sports hub, if you want to challenge fellow mates for table tennis or playing darts!
  • Fancy a good cup of coffee? We have an in-house barista to get you that perfect cup!
  • Many social events to take part in (Melbourne Cup is just one of them).
  • Betting competitions – Hello wagering!
  • A continued commitment to employee development.
  • Employee share program.
  • Wellness benefits.
  • Great work-life balance and flexibility.

If you have the above skills and experience and are looking for an exciting and rewarding career apply today. We look forward to hearing from you.

Only applicants currently in Australia with unrestricted working rights will be considered.
