The role

We are strong believers in engineering teams taking operational responsibility for their products and work hard to support them in this. We work closely with engineers to advocate sensible, scalable systems and design and share responsibility with them in diagnosing, resolving, and preventing production issues. 

As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the reliability and operability of our software systems. Your expertise will be key in maintaining a balance between high system performance and the ongoing development of scalable and resilient software solutions. 

What you will do

  • Contribute to the design, development, and operation of large-scale, distributed systems. 
  • Implement and manage continuous delivery systems and methodologies. 
  • Develop and refine automation and tooling to drive efficiency and reliability in our systems. 
  • Collaborate with development teams to design platforms with scalability, reliability, and security as core considerations. 
  • Participate in on-call rotations and resolve complex production issues. 
  • Oversee capacity planning and proactive performance optimisation, with an eye toward pushing our capabilities forward and getting ahead of customer needs. 
  • Establish and monitor service-levels and error budgets, ensuring a balanced approach to innovation and stability. 

Your experience

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in site reliability engineering, DevOps, or a similar role in a large-scale production environment. 
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following: Go, Python, C#, NodeJS or similar programming languages. 
  • Strong experience with Linux/Unix systems and a deep understanding of network fundamentals. 
  • Strong experience with cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, GCP, Openstack) and containerisation technologies (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes). 
  • Expertise in observability tooling (e.g. Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry). 
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines and tools (e.g. Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, CircleCI). 
  • Comfortable with infrastructure-as-code (e.g. Ansible, Terraform, Puppet). 

Preferred Skills: 

  • Experience with the following technologies/tools: 
  • Prometheus 
  • Thanos 
  • Grafana 
  • Grafana Loki 
  • Grafana Tempo 
  • OpenTelemetry 
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with a systematic approach to problem-solving. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to document systems, processes, and troubleshooting steps clearly. 
  • A keen interest in new technologies and industry trends.
