The position

As a Senior Data Protection Counsel, you will act as the right hand of the DPO on all privacy-related matters. You will be responsible for assessing potential privacy risks and developing solutions, furthering innovation while protecting individuals' privacy, and providing guidance and advice to stakeholders across the business, whilst ensuring Kindred retains its position as a trustworthy partner who puts data protection compliance first. You will report to the Group DPO and be part of a wider legal team based across Europe within a fast-paced industry.  


Key Responsibilities

  • Advise business stakeholders globally on a broad range of data privacy matters
  • Advise on practical implications of privacy requirements under the GDPR, UK GDPR, and other data privacy laws
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to drive compliance with data privacy laws
  • Support the DPO in conducting privacy risk assessments of new projects, initiatives, products, and business processes
  • Assist procurement, Security and Enterprise IT teams in conducting supplier audits and due diligence assessments as part of our supplier risk management framework
  • Support ongoing enterprise-wide data mapping
  • Draft, negotiate, and advise on data protection agreements, terms of service, privacy notices, and other contracts and disclosures, as well as international data transfer
  • Monitor developments in the data protection legal landscape globally
  • Assist in designing and delivering training for the business
  • Liaise with other key business areas to provide privacy support, such as the Information Security, Legal, Compliance & Risk, Internal Audit, procurement.
  • Support the DPO with investigating data breaches and, if necessary, preparing reports to regulators.
  • Assist the DPO with responding to any regulatory or customer complaints.
  • Provide legal advice on Data Subject Requests.
  • Work with the DPO and Data Governance Manager to enhance group wide data governance
  • Guide the business on how best to ensure data protection by design and default
  • Oversee data protection audits and reviews.


Core skills and competences

  • Law degree
  • + 6 years experience in data protection laws
  • Solicitors qualifications not required
  • Privacy related certification is a plus
  • Familiarity with e-marketing rules
  • Experience driving cross-functional and global projects
  • Good understanding of online technologies and their privacy implications
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to build close partnerships with business and legal stakeholders
  • Ability to translate legal and regulatory requirements into understandable risk-based recommendations for the business
  • Ability to prioritize competing projects
  • Ability to operate proactively and independently
