Database Performance Engineer



The role


We are looking for a database performance engineer that will support us in building the most performant and stable application on this planet. 


The database performance engineer we are looking for, should have deep knowledge and experience in databases and should be interested in development. You could say that this role involves an end to end approach. A developer who is interested in databases or a database administrator who interested in development could be a good fit. 


We are looking for a database performance engineer that is willing to evolve our environment. The primary focus of the role will be to support the developers with their database Interactions so they can concentrate on building cutting edge software. You have a strong focus on tuning the data layer of Java applications. You are an expert in database performance tuning and development and would love the challenge of joining a technically challenging environment working in a cutting-edge team. You should be interested in learning new technologies and be eager to share your knowledge.  


Your primary database focus will be on Oracle but the team also support Solace, Kafka, MySQL and Couchbase. The team are looking into technology on the frontline which you will participate in evaluating. The Oracle database environment today consists of Oracle 19c running Enterprise Edition RAC. The majority of the development is done using Java and Spring-boot on Kubernetes. We have a strong focus on high availability and a zero downtime approach. 


Our database team at Kindred is a vital part of the AMO organisation. You will be part of a team responsible for a strong working relationship, the support of all of the development lifecycle and managing databases. 


What you will do


  • Act as a database expert for all development teams at Kindred 
  • Guide our developer team to build the most performant and stable application on the market 
  • Evaluate and test new technology 
  • Work as part of the DBA team to evolve our database environment 
  • Work close together with the Infrastructure and Network team to build a world class platform for our databases.

  • Fulfillment of OKRs
  • Regular performance reviews with your line manager

  • Successful completion of all relevant training and other compliance activities that support Kindred's sustainable and responsible growth



Your experience


  • Extensive Database experience 
  • Good knowledge in performance tuning on Oracle and some other databases, preferably MySQL or PostgreSQL  
  • Knowledge in at least one programming language such as Java 
  • A plus if you have any experience in Solace, Kafka, or MySQL  
  • Good knowledge in DB-design and development 
  • Strong customer service and conflict management skills 
  • Develop routines to keep a stable and high performing environment 
  • Good social and communication skills
  • Able to work in a team as well as taking your own initiative
