Compliance Manager Ontario

With offices in New York, New Jersey, Nevada and Virginia, Kindred is expanding towards its goal to be a market leader. Kindred currently holds licenses in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Virginia, Iowa and Arizona and is keen to expand its footprint in North America. With the regulation of iGaming in Ontario and the anticipated regulation of online sports betting, Kindred is looking for a Compliance Manager for the Ontario market. The role reports to the VP Regulatory Affairs US.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Develop, build out and own the compliance function for the Ontario market and any other Canadian provinces as and when they regulate
  • Establish a professional, constructive, and transparent relation with the various gaming regulators, government agencies and relevant policymakers and represent Unibet/Kindred in various local industry forums as a knowledgeable, trustworthy partner.
  • Interpret regulatory requirements in Ontario and new Provinces that enact Sports Wagering and iGaming legislation and advice the Unibet line organization in a clear, comprehensible, and accurate manner.
  • Create and manage internal controls and audit compliance against such controls within the business
  • Ensure that promotional campaigns, affiliate agreements, and product releases are compliant with applicable gambling regulations
  • Ensure that the Ontario market is aligned with compliance's best practices across Unibet in the US and Europe (where relevant)
  • Analyze customer data and case learnings to continuously improve compliance
  • Work closely with internal business stakeholders, providing all-round support on all compliance matters, thereby positioning Unibet as a trustworthy partner who puts compliance first throughout its operations.
  • Proactively identify, action, and mitigate any compliance risks for the business
  • Build and promote positive relationships with external partners, suppliers, and stakeholders
  • Research allowability of proposed product enhancements and system integrations
  • Review on-site content, such as House Rules, Terms, and Conditions, Privacy Policy
  • Provide compliance guidance to Operations, Marketing, Customer Support, Product, Payments & Fraud teams, and others as required and champion an interconnected collaborative model between LeCoR (Legal, Public Affairs and Compliance) and commercial/product teams where expertise and know-how are shared and made accessible across teams
  • Provide oversight of the change management process and ensure compliance with local regulators
  • Respond to inquiries or requests for comment from regulators or other agencies
  • Review customer complaints and submit to regulators
  • Present Compliance where needed/required
  • Invest in his/her continuous training and remain informed about all relevant regulatory developments, competitors and other major factors that affect business opportunities and risk
  • Any other duties as assigned given the rapidly evolving regulatory landscape

What have you done?

  • 7-10 years' experience in a Compliance Manager level role
  • Demonstrated experience working in the Casino / Gambling industry in a legal or compliance-related role is highly desired
  • An interest in sports betting and gambling is preferable
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • You will be comfortable with reviewing laws & regulations and dealing with legal documentation and you have a solid understanding of regulatory requirements
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to establish trusted relationships with regulators
  • Demonstrated experience in simultaneously successfully handling different responsibilities, in a high-pressure environment and against strict deadlines, and building on synergies between various teams and stakeholders
  • Strong analytical and decisive skills, with the ability to prioritize and communicate key objectives to achieve organizational goals while maintaining accuracy and quality
  • Efficient and confident communicator, strong collaboration and influencing skills, team player by nature and able to make fast and complex decisions and ensure buy-in from other business stakeholders based on a mutually respectable relation
  • A hands-on, versatile, and well-organized “Doer” who has proven to always go the extra mile, is a genuine team player and breathes the Kindred values, able to represent Kindred's best interests in various internal and external fora
  • Understanding of industry trends, both sector specific as digital in general, and ability to proactively translate them into the Kindred reality
