At FDJ United, data and analytics are crucial to our growth and innovation as we expand into new markets. We are seeking a Senior Cloud Data Engineer to join our Analytics Tech team. In this role, you will support the development and maintenance of our clickstream data architecture on AWS, helping ensure the generation of high-quality datasets that accurately reflect customer behaviour across various digital platforms.

You'll work with a modern, high-performance data stack — including Snowplow for event tracking, Apache Iceberg as our central data lake, dbt Spark for scalable data transformations, and ClickHouse for low-latency analytics — all underpinned by Open Metadata to ensure robust governance and discoverability.

As a senior member of the data engineering team, you'll design and evolve the architecture that powers these systems, ensuring reliability, scalability, and performance at enterprise scale. You'll collaborate closely with Python Developers, Analysts, and Data Scientists to enable advanced self-serve analytics and real-time insights that drive strategic decisions across the business.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the design and implementation of robust dbt data models that power decision-making, marketing analytics, product insights, and ad-hoc exploration across the organization.
• Architect and maintain scalable schemas and automated data pipelines leveraging Apache Iceberg as the central data lake to ensure performance, governance, and lineage.
• Develop and optimize data transformations with dbt Spark, ensuring models are reliable, reusable, and well-documented.
• Enhance self-serve analytics by developing well-structured, performant ClickHouse tables that serve as the foundation for business dashboards and reporting.
• Define and evolve the semantic layer, standardizing business metric definitions, enabling consistency for natural language querying tools and self-serve analytics.
• Drive innovation through exploratory projects, including proof-of-concept initiatives in generative AI and emerging data technologies, evaluating their practical application to FDJ UNITED's data ecosystem.
• Establish and advocate best practices in data transformation and modeling, promoting effective use of Snowplow, dbt, and related tools across the organization.
• Stay curious and proactive in learning about advancements in data engineering, cloud platforms, and AI technologies, bringing fresh ideas to the team.

What will you need?  

• Extensive experience designing and implementing data transformations using SQL and Python, with a focus on performance, maintainability, and scalability.
• Understanding of data modeling principles, with hands-on expertise building and optimizing models in dbt to enable analytics, reporting, and machine learning use cases.
• Interest in learning about clickstream data and event-driven architectures, with some familiarity considered a plus.
• Experience working within cloud environments, ideally AWS, and familiarity with infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD, and automation best practices.
• Awareness of governance frameworks and data catalogues, with an interest in supporting documentation and metadata management.
• Collaborative and influential communicator, capable of translating business goals into technical solutions, mentoring team members, and contributing to architectural discussions.
• Curious and forward-thinking, continuously exploring innovations in data engineering, cloud technologies, and AI — and bringing those insights to elevate team practices.

Additional experience that would be benificial

• dbt certification and hands-on experience developing production-grade dbt models.
• 2+ years of experience with Airflow or other orchestration frameworks.
• Familiarity with Trino or similar distributed SQL query engines.
• Experience with modern data stack components such as Spark, Kafka or Iceberg.
• Experience working with large-scale columnar databases (e.g., ClickHouse, Redshift, BigQuery) and performance tuning for analytical workloads.
• AWS certification (e.g., Solutions Architect, Data Analytics).
• Prior experience as a digital analytics implementation developer, ideally working with Clickstream data.
