The role
The Legal Counsel for Netherlands will have overall legal responsibility and provide support on the legal matters within the local market (contracts, marketing, general legal advice, customer complaints, etc.) and work closely with all local stakeholders, including the commercial team, whilst ensuring FDJ UNITED retains its position as a trustworthy partner who puts compliance first throughout our operations. The Legal Counsel will work within a global team of lawyers based across Europe within a fast-paced industry.
Key responsibilities
Manage, oversee and execute a variety of legal tasks, including;
Reviewing and drafting legal documents and commercial contracts including agreements for technology services, games and marketing agreements
Operate as a business partner with close proximity to the line organization and able to foster close collaboration with other compliance/regulatory departments within FDJ UNITED.
Liaising with internal stakeholders (Commercial, Procurement & Finance departments) and suppliers during contract review, marketing campaigns review and negotiations.
Select, appoint, manage and direct external counsel representing FDJ UNITED in various procedures, both contentious and non-contentious.
Supervising advertising and promotional campaigns in the Netherlands
Providing effective legal advice and support across the business and take ownership of any type of legal support required
Manage customer complaints and customer litigations
Handling regulatory litigation in local markets
Monitoring, reviewing and revising FDJ UNITED terms and conditions
Monitoring and advising on the legislative landscape and gambling developments and drafting public statements and customer communications
Work with local and international trade bodies on a need-to basis providing local legal and regulatory guidance.
Core skills and competences
To accomplish the mission and fulfil the role, the Legal Counsel requires the following skills and competences:
Strong analytical and decisive skills, with the ability to prioritize and communicate key objectives to achieve organizational goals while maintaining accuracy and quality
Extensive experience with drafting and reviewing various types of agreements and provide legal guidance for advertising and promotional campaigns for the NL market.
Experience in dealing with dynamic multi-dimensional legal issues in a regulated industry is a plus as well as experience from litigations in the Netherlands.
Demonstrated experience in simultaneously successfully handling different responsibilities, in a high-pressure environment and against strict deadlines, and building on synergies between various teams and stakeholders
A hands-on, versatile and well-organised “doer” who has proven to always go the extra mile, is a genuine team player and breathes the FDJ UNITED values, able to represent Kindred's best interests in various internal and external for a
Strong interpersonal and people skills, team player by nature and able to make fast and complex decisions and ensure buy-in from other business stakeholders based on a mutually respectable relation
Ability to foster open and pro-active relationships with direct functional stakeholders
Relevant Experience
Professional qualification as lawyer, minimum 2-3 years' experience in a legal role gained in-house and/or in a leading private practice firm. Previous experience in a digital industry is desirable.
Experience from managing litigations, media & technology and regulatory matters.
Native level of English and Dutch proficiency.
