Lead Data Engineer – Finance & Regulatory Systems

As a Lead Data Engineer, you will spearhead the development and delivery of data solutions supporting key corporate functions, with a strong emphasis on Finance, Legal, Regulatory, and Compliance domains. You will be responsible for driving data projects from concept to completion, ensuring alignment with business goals and regulatory requirements.

Working within the broader Data team, you will lead efforts to design and implement data flows and integrations from source systems—including ERP and other financial platforms—through to reporting layers. A critical aspect of this role is ensuring the accuracy and completeness of data used for financial reporting, audits, tax calculations, and other compliance-critical processes.

Your deep understanding of financial systems and regulatory frameworks will be essential in architecting reliable, scalable solutions that meet both operational and statutory obligations. You will also guide the team through the full project lifecycle, ensuring timely delivery, clear communication, and technical excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of data engineering projects focused on financial and regulatory systems, ensuring they are completed on time and to specification.
  • Collaborate closely with Finance, Legal, and Compliance stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into robust data solutions.
  • Drive the design and implementation of data architectures and integration pipelines between core systems such as ERP (e.g., Oracle, SAP), finance platforms, and reporting tools.
  • Ensure data accuracy and quality, particularly for financial reporting, tax computations, and regulatory submissions.
  • Maintain and optimize data processes, with a strong focus on Oracle performance tuning and data pipeline efficiency.
  • Support and mentor the Data Engineering team, helping them grow technically and ensuring delivery standards are maintained.
  • Participate in financial audits and support compliance efforts by maintaining transparent and traceable data processes.
  • Define and promote development standards, data governance practices, and testing strategies across the team.
  • Build and maintain REST API integrations to support data exchange between platforms.
  • Remain engaged across multiple initiatives, providing leadership and consulting support to new projects early in their lifecycle.
  • Proactively identify risks and remove blockers to ensure project delivery milestones are achieved.
  • Contribute to upskilling efforts within the team by delivering technical training and developing documentation.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

  • Strong data engineering background, with proven experience in financial systems integration and reporting.
  • Solid understanding of ERP systems (e.g., Oracle Financials, SAP) and financial data structures.
  • Proficiency in SQL, PL/SQL, Python, and shell scripting.
  • Experience with data transformation, performance tuning, and process optimization.
  • Proven track record of leading data projects and delivering end-to-end solutions in complex environments.
  • Familiarity with regulatory and compliance frameworks (e.g. GDPR, local tax regulations).
  • Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, and development best practices in data engineering.
  • Skilled in building and maintaining REST APIs for data integration.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Previous leadership or mentorship experience within a technical team.
