As an Engineering Manager, you are passionate about leadership and committed to inspiring and empowering your team of cross-functional software engineers and team leads. In your role you will support and foster career development, ensuring that each team member has the necessary resources to progress and thrive in the team and at FDJ UNITED. You will focus on setting up the team for success, adapting team capacity to business needs and providing the environment and culture that supports a thriving engineering community throughout the organization. You are expected to collaborate with other managers in the Tech organization and interact with business teams, product teams and other stakeholders as needed.

Key Accountabilities

Lead teams to success

  • Guide teams to deliver high-quality solutions, holding yourself and others accountable, and finding solutions when goals are unclear
  • Monitor team output quality, product stability, incidents, and performance, and take action based on findings
  • Ensure team work aligns with organizational goals, including secure development and tech processes
  • Build a culture of ownership through coaching, clear expectations, and corrective actions when needed
  • Promote continuous improvement with measurable outcomes like efficiency, quality, and value
  • Foster open communication and information sharing to provide context for company-wide strategies

Grow individuals professionally

  • Regularly assess performance and give feedback, adjusting compensation accordingly
  • Set and monitor personal development goals to support growth and motivation
  • Provide training, coaching, and mentoring to help employees reach their potential
  • Create a positive and inclusive work environment where team members feel valued and supported
  • Address conflicts or underperformance effectively
  • Encourage growth within the team and across the organization

Organize and optimize the workforce

  • Shape the Engineering organization to meet future needs, considering evolving technologies and market trends
  • Structure teams for scalable and timely delivery, ensuring clear ownership, minimal dependencies, and appropriate skills
  • Align workforce with strategic goals, forming or dissolving teams as needed
  • Maximize resource use by redistributing and cross-training talent
  • Recruit top talent with the right skills and team fit
  • Work with Talent Acquisition to ensure a smooth recruitment process and positive candidate experience

Create the environment that supports technical excellence

  • Strengthen and promote Engineering culture
  • Understand the technical landscape, including component complexity, architecture, and dependencies
  • Drive continuous improvement across Engineering, collaborating with stakeholders to deliver scalable, sustainable, quality solutions
  • Identify gaps and implement solutions proactively
  • Encourage technical innovation and thought leadership through activities like Hackdays, Geek Sessions, and participation in external events

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Leadership and people management
  • Proficient in coaching and mentoring, always prioritizing individuals
  • Experience in Lean and Agile environments within fast-paced settings
  • Skilled at building successful teams and motivating continuous improvement
